CSCA ... Join a SOGI Ad-Hoc Committee
Dear SOGI Caucus Members,
As discussed at our most recent business meeting, we are moving forward with the creation of three ad-hoc committees designed to strengthen our caucus and its impact within the Central States Communication Association (CSCA). These committees will focus on awards, activism, and intersectional programming.
Here is a brief overview of each committee’s focus:
- Awards Committee: This group will review our current awards structure and consider potential additions. One area of interest has been the creation of a teaching-focused award. The committee will also explore the possibility of seeking additional named awards to better recognize the breadth of contributions made by our members.
- Activism Committee: This is a "committee to create a committee." Its charge is to develop a mechanism for ongoing activist response within the caucus, including the formation of a standing group of senior caucus members who can respond to issues such as sexuality harassment, discrimination, or other concerns regarding LGBTQ+ representation within CSCA.
- Programming & Partnerships Committee: This committee will generate ideas for social and activist-oriented programming that SOGI might host. It will also explore collaborative opportunities with other CSCA caucuses to foster intersectional and coalition-building efforts across the association.
If you are interested in serving on one of these committees, please email both Immediate Past-Chair Jimmie Manning (jimmiem@unr.edu) and current Chair Danielle Stern (danielle.stern@cnu.edu) by September 30. We welcome volunteers at all career stages and will review submissions and make committee appointments shortly after the deadline.
Thank you for being part of the important work of the SOGI Caucus. We look forward to collaborating with many of you on these initiatives.
In solidarity,
Jimmie Manning (Immediate Past-Chair)
