Board games networking
Saturday 11:00am-11:15pm Parlor 629
Chair: Wendy K. Z. Anderson, University of Minnesota
Presenter: Brittany Ann Knutson, University of Minnesota
Whether it is to build your networks, take a break, or just balance your conference with some play, please join us for a social hour reconnecting with one another through board games. Board games put the conversation back in communication studies in a way that we need to have-you sit with one another and everyone is at the same eye level. It requires us to use our intellectual and socio-emotional toolbags as we interact with one another. We are interested in how play refigures the sociality of space. When there is a public, more than one person in play, there is accountability that gives us a new understanding of communication ethics of engaging one another. We enforce and negotiate what that reconnection looks like. It's not that we drop differences at the door, but we are called to renegotiate those resources to come to a communal embodiment of play. Playing with each other requires intellectual energy that changes the interaction. Are you up for a reconnection through play?
