CSCA 2019 Convention - Performance Studies & Autoethnography Interest Group Call for Papers

Dear CSCA Performance Studies and Autoethnography Interest Group,

As chair of the interest group, it is with great pleasure that I extend to you an invitation to begin developing your submissions for the 2019 Central States Communication Association conference in Omaha, NE. I have attached the call below and I encourage you to submit your best work in performance, autoethnography, and the intersections of the two. I also encourage you to share the call with your colleagues and students.

In mid October, after the submission process is complete, I will be reaching out to many of you, as members of the interest group, to review submissions. If you are unable to do so, please just let me know and I will take you off the list.

If you have any questions about the submission process, please feel to reach out. The submission process will be significantly improved from previous years. CSCA is finalizing an online system that will streamline the submission process is a positive way. The link to submit will be available soon. Thank you for your membership and participation in the interest group. Let's make this a phenomenal conference!

The Performance Studies & Autoethnography Interest Group invites submissions for the 2019 Central States Communication Association conference to be held in Omaha, Nebraska, April 3-6, 2019. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, October 10, 2018 11:59 CST.

Our interest group focuses on two primary areas of scholarship: performance studies and autoethnography. We view performance as a method of communication inquiry and as an embodied way of knowing and presenting information. We view autoethnography as a critically engaged orientation toward scholarship located in embodied experience.

We invite scholars to attend to these interests at multiple levels, including the intersections of performance and autoethnography. We welcome a variety of submission formats, including individual papers and performances, performances panels, paper panels, and spotlight sessions.

We especially encourage members to address issues related to the convention theme “Dialogue.” In honor of this year’s convention theme, we invite contributions that laud or problematize dialogue in performance and autoethnographic contexts. In an attempt to engage in dialogue with others, we would like to extend our unit call to disciplinary fields that recognize the value of dialogue in the contexts of performance and autoethnography. To do so, we encourage submissions of panels and performances that are co-sponsored with other CSCA units. Please contact the Interest Group Chairs for help coordinating co-sponsored panels.

We are excited to announce that CSCA will have a new online submission system in the near future. Details will be available on the CSCA website (https://www.csca-net.org) closer to the submission deadline.

Thank you for considering us and we look forward to seeing you in Omaha.
