CSCA 2019 Convention - Health Communication Interest Group Call for Papers

Hello everyone:

I hope your summer has been going well. First, you will find below a copy of the Call for Submissions for the Health Communication Interest Group. Over the years, Health Communication has had a strong research representation at CSCA and I am confident the quality will be even stronger at the 2019 convention. I encourage you to submit your research and let it join the Dialogue in honor of next year's theme.

Second, if you haven't yet submitted your name for consideration as a possible Chair or a Respondent for a panel, let me know.

And finally, remember to check the Group's Facebook page for weekly postings of suggested panel ideas:  www.facebook.com/groups/137783146424405/  The page is also a good place to share ideas, brainstorm, or solicit panelists.

If there are any questions or concerns, email me at kallia.wright@ic.edu.

Call for Submissions: Health Communication Interest Group

Central States Communication Association Convention, April 3-9, 2019, Omaha, Nebraska

Deadline: Wednesday, October 10, 2018 by 11:59pm (CST)

The Health Communication Interest Group invites submissions of competitive papers and panels to be considered for programming at the Central States Communication Association (CSCA) conference, April 3-6, 2019 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Our interest group focuses on helping key publics better grasp, appreciate, use, and articulate health communication research, practice, and teaching. Health communication scholars also monitor and evaluate the efficacy of community-based, communication-driven, and health-related applications. The interest group is dedicated to engaging in interdisciplinary collaboration to develop curricular innovations centering on health communication. Thus, scholarship, community outreach, and pedagogy comprise our mission.

We welcome submissions on all topics which advance our mission, especially those that address the conference theme, Dialogue. We invite papers and panels that examine the enactment (or non-enactment) of dialogue and the implications of dialogue within the health care context. Topics that could be examined include the use of technology to enhance dialogue, the implications of disclosing illness narratives in the workplace, research on how to help patients effectively and ethically instigate dialogue with practitioners, and suggestions for helping researchers engage in translational dialogue with community members.

We strongly encourage submissions that address contemporary health opportunities and threats, invite cross-unit participation and collaboration, and create new opportunities and experiences for conference attendees. We enthusiastically encourage and prefer submissions from students and panel submissions that include panelists from multiple institutions.

The CSCA Health Communication Interest Group’s Facebook group is an excellent forum to share ideas and solicit panelists: www.facebook.com/groups/137783146424405/

The Health Communication Division offers three awards: top paper, top student paper, and top panel.
