Teaching Assistant Professor for Basic Communication Course (Non-Tenure Track)

The University of Wisconsin–La Crosse Department of Communication Studies is seeking an experienced and motivated Teaching Assistant Professor for our basic communication course, Communicating Effectively (CST 110). CST 110 is a general education course that focuses on public speaking, interpersonal communication, and small group communication. A person in this position will teach four sections per semester of Communicating Effectively (CST 110), as well as engage in department, college, and/or university service. Possibilities for teaching other courses in the department will depend on department need and candidate expertise.
In addition to preparing for and holding face-to-face classes, teaching involves maintaining currency in the content area related to the teaching assignment, evaluating students’ work, assessing student outcomes, maintaining appropriate records, and holding office hours. In addition, workload may involve advising students and/or providing other service to the department. Other duties may be assigned by the chair or dean.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching communication concepts to undergraduate students and a willingness to participate in our collegial and supportive department environment.
The position is for the 2025-2026 academic year and follows University annual review and renewal procedures.
Required Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in Communication Studies or closely related area.
• At least two semesters as instructor of record of communication-related classes.

The department is one of the largest departments in the College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities, supporting 600 students as majors and minors. Communicating Effectively (CST 110) is one of two general education classes at the university that all students are required to take.
