Convergence
The Communication Theory Interest Group (CTIG) invites the submission of competitive papers, panels, roundtable discussions, and innovative programming for the 2015 CSCA convention in Madison, Wisconsin. The purpose of the CTIG Interest Group is to promote the interests of communication theory faculty and students, as well as others interested in the theories and philosophy of communication. A range of topics encompassing communication theory is welcome, and we especially encourage members to address issues related to the convention theme of Convergence.
Convergence, as a theme, suggests we look not only at well-explored communication theory, but also theories that are underdeveloped and have fallen by the wayside. It means looking into the corners of communication theory for philosophical traditions and scholars that are/or have been overlooked (for example: existentialism, pragmatism, Roman Jakobson, J. L. Austin, etc.). It means bringing in theories from different communication subdisciplines and doing “mash-ups” to investigate one topic.
Papers: Only completed papers will be accepted. Papers must include a title and a brief abstract, and should be no more that 25 pages. The word “Student” should be marked on all papers written by student authors. Student authored papers do not include those co-authored with faculty members. Author names and any identifying information must be removed prior to submission. A Competitive Paper Submission Form must be submitted along with the paper. This form is located on the CSCA website: www.csca-net.org. The top CGIT competitive paper shall be designated the Em Griffin Award winner and will be determined by the Chair, based on Reviewer evaluations.
Panels: Discussion panels and paper panels must be submitted using the respective forms located on the CSCA website: www.csca-net.org. In terms of panels, preference will be given to those with panelists representing multiple institutions rather than representing a single institution. The top CGIT competitive panel will be determined by the Chair, based on Reviewer evaluations.
All technology requests must be made at the time of submission.
Submissions must be received by October 3, 2014.
