CSCA 2017 Call for Papers Reminder: Health Communication

Hello members of the Health Communication Interest Group. I am writing to remind you the deadline for submitting panels or papers to CSCA is just over a month away. We generated wonderful topic ideas at our April business meeting and during September I will share those ideas on our Facebook page, where you are encouraged to solicit potential co-authors or panelists. That address is: www.facebook.com/groups/137783146424405/

Call for Submissions

2017 Central States Communication Association (CSCA) Annual Conference

Hyatt Regency Minneapolis, Minnesota

March 16 – 18, 2017

Create

The Health Communication Interest Group invites submissions of competitive papers, programs, and panels to be considered for programming the 2017 CSCA conference in Minneapolis.

Our interest group focuses on helping key publics better grasp, appreciate, use, and articulate health communication research, practice, and teaching. Health communication scholars also monitor and evaluate the efficacy of community-based, communication-driven, and health-related applications. The interest group is dedicated to engaging in interdisciplinary collaboration to develop curricular innovations centering on health communication. Thus, scholarship, community outreach, and pedagogy comprise our mission.

We invite submissions on all topics which advance our mission, especially those which address the conference theme, Create. In keeping with the theme and with our host city’s focus on urban health, we encourage expansive understandings of health to include social, ecological, and built environments and the role communication plays in creating and sustaining them. We also encourage innovative understandings of communication’s ability to create both positive and negative health outcomes across a range of contexts, including identity formation and stigma, social and family support, patient-provider interaction, technology and telehealth, health care team functionality, corporate and organizational communication, political communication, health campaigns and interventions, mass media messages, and critical theory and advocacy. We strongly encourage submissions which address contemporary health opportunities and threats, which invite cross-unit participation and collaboration, and which create new opportunities and experiences for conference attendees. We enthusiastically encourage submissions from students and panel submissions which include panelists from multiple institutions.

The CSCA Health Communication Interest Group’s Facebook group is an excellent forum to share ideas and solicit panelists: www.facebook.com/groups/137783146424405/
