Organizational and Professional Communication Unit Call (CSCA 2016-Grand Rapids)

ORGANIZATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION INTEREST GROUP
Call for Papers and Panels

2016 Central States Communication Association (CSCA)
Annual Convention in Grand Rapids, Michigan
April 13-17, 2016

Foundation

The Organizational and Professional Communication Interest Group invites the submissions of competitive papers, panels, roundtable discussions, and innovative programming for the 2016 CSCA convention in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The purpose of our interest group is to collaboratively promote the efforts of researchers, teacher/scholars, and practitioners as they relate to the study and practice of human communication in organizational and professional topics. Thus, any such topic related to organizational and professional communication is welcomed; however, we especially encourage submissions that focus on the convention theme, “Foundation.” Focus should be placed on the spirit of foundation, rather than simply including the word in titles. As an interest group, we can demonstrate how the research and practice of organizational communication is not only a base, or the underpinning of organizations, but a building block as well.

Papers and panels from both established and new scholars that celebrate strong scholarship and suggest new directions for research, application, and teaching are encouraged. Planners are interested in all types of formats including: traditional paper panels, roundtable discussions, and working research sessions. Panels ought to have representation from multiple institutions rather than representing a single institution. We are especially interested in submission formats that draw the audience into conversation about convergence and its relation to the study and practice of organizational communication.

Guidelines for Submission:

Competitive Papers: Only completed papers that conform to APA standards and are submitted as Microsoft Word documents will be accepted. Papers must include a title and a brief abstract. Author names and any identifying information must be removed prior to submission. Email submissions should include a title page as a separate document. The title page should include: title, institutional affiliation, address(es) of author(s), phone and email address(es), and indication of: (a) whether the author is a CSCA member, (b) if submitter has not presented at a CSCA conference, and (c) the word “STUDENT” in the upper right hand corner if the submitter is a graduate or undergraduate student. The interest group will recognize the top competitive papers and the top student paper. The “Competitive Paper Submission Form” must be submitted along with the paper. This form is located on the CSCA website: www.csca-net.org.

Panel Proposals: Panel proposals ought to include: (a) a title; (b) a rationale statement and description of the proposed panel—roundtable discussion, paper panel (completed papers that encompass a specific topic), debate, spotlight; (c) name of person responsible for the proposal; (d) names, institutional affiliations, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of each panel participant; and (e) a 200-word abstract for each paper if a paper panel submission or an explanation of each participant’s purpose/perspective if a different panel format. Indicate whether participants are CSCA members. The interest group will recognize the top panel. Panels must be submitted as a Microsoft Word document. Please use the appropriate Panel Submission Form located on the CSCA website: www.csca-net.org.

All technology requests must be made at the time of submission. Please indicate your AV requests in the text of your submission email.

Again, submit all proposals and associated documents as Microsoft Word documents. Use the respective submission forms found on the CSCA website (www.csca-net.org). Submissions must be received by OCTOBER 3, 2015. Send submissions to Peggy Fisher at CSCAOrgComm@gmail.com.
