Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Caucus Unit Call (CSCA 2016-Grand Rapids)

SEXUAL ORIENTATION AND GENDER IDENTITY CAUCUS
Call for Papers and Panels

2016 Central States Communication Association (CSCA)
Annual Convention in Grand Rapids, Michigan
April 13-17, 2016

Foundation

The Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Caucus invites submissions of competitive papers and panel proposals for the 2016 CSCA Conference. In conjunction with the convention theme of Foundation, we are seeking innovative and critical research that explores foundational theories, methodologies, histories, pedagogical practices, and professional concerns in all areas of the communication discipline associated with gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer studies. As communication scholars interested in LGBTQ issues, we welcome a diverse range of topics including but not limited to the following: constructions and communicative practices of sexual and gender identities, representations of LGBTQ persons in media and popular culture, drag culture, same-sex marriage debate, gender bending children, trans and queer advocacy, historical figures of the LGBTQ movement, queer intercultural communication, intersectionalities of race, gender, and sexuality, HIV/AIDS advocacy, and foundational LGBTQ communication scholars and scholarship. Additionally, we encourage undergraduate and graduate students to submit their papers. Awards are given to both top paper and top student paper. In terms of panels, strong preference will be given to those with panelists from multiple institutions.

Guideline for Submissions

Papers

Only completed papers will be accepted. Papers can follow APA, MLA, or Chicago style, and must be the original work of the author(s). Please include a detachable title page with author’s name and contact information. Include in the main document title and brief abstract (50-75 words). Remove all identifying author information from the paper prior to submission. The word “Student” should be marked on all papers written by student authors. Student authored papers do not include those co-authored with faculty members. A Competitive Paper Submission Form must be submitted along with the paper. This form is located on the CSCA website: www.csca-net.org.

Panels

Paper panels and discussions panels are welcome. Paper panels include completed papers encompassing a specific topic and roughly four to five panelists. All panels must be submitted using the respective forms (Paper Panel Submission Form, Discussion Panel Submission Form) located on the CSCA website: www.csca-net.org.

All technology requests must be made at the time of submission.
